Shopping in AmsterdamThere are many opportunities for shopping in Amsterdam. Any tourist map gives you a good description of the areas and the kinds of shops that are available. The shops are not too expensive either. One popular area is the pedestrian area along Kalverstraat which lies between the flower market (Kalvertorn) and the square around Magna Plaza. This contains all the usual stores and boutiques that you would find in many high street shopping areas in European cities. We were particularly please to find a "Clarks" shoe shop. There were other famous shopping areas of Amsterdamm. The attractive canal walk Leidsestraat is lined with Antique shops along with art shops. There is also the opportunity to stop at a coffee shop along this shopping road, and sample the famous waffles. Other shopping areas include the Nieuwenduijk which goes from the main station to Magna Plaza. The Magna Plaza itself seems to be a glorified shopping mall with pretend exclusive names and labels. |
